Invisible Increasing and Decreasing in Pattern: Cables with Allison Jane Knits

Cables offer a unique opportunity to work increases and decreases in pattern, in a way that is almost completely invisible and seamless. After learning the mechanics of working these increases and decreases, students will have a fuller understanding of cable structure and shaping, and be able to follow patterns using cable shaping, or even work cable shaping into their own projects.

Class will cover:
Increasing in cables using yarnover hidden in cable crosses
Decreasing in cables using a cable needle
Working cables without a cable needle
Understanding how shaped cables interact with the space on your project

Skill Details:
Students should have a basic understanding of and ability to make cables with a cable needle, work basic decreases and increases (ssk, k2tog, yo) as well as be able to cast on, knit, and purl. Students may cast on in class if they prefer, or can prepare for class by casting 24-36 stitches on their preferred needle and yarn size, and working .5-1? in Stockinette stitch.
Materials for students to bring: Preferred yarn, lighter colors and smooth simple hand (no mohair/novelty yarns!) Needles to match yarn, to work back and forth on a swatch Cable needle Stitch markers
